Astoria civic leader Skip Hauke is in fair condition today in the coronary care unit at Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Beaverton.
Family members say Hauke had a heart attack Wednesday.
A third-generation grocer, he owned Hauke's Sentry Market at 3300 Lief Erickson Drive for many years and was well-known for his chicken barbecues and for donating a dollar to the Astoria High School athletic program for each basket scored by the Fishermen during home games.
After selling the store property to Safeway a couple of years ago, Hauke retired but continues to be active in the community. He is a member of the Friends of the Astoria Aquatic Center and many other community causes and organizations.
