CHINOOK, Wash. - June 19 marks the seventh annual Sturgeon Derby hosted by Southwest Washington Anglers. The derby, again focused at the Port of Chinook, features a day of fishing and prizes. For a $32 entry fee, boat or bank anglers receive a T-shirt, a hot meal and the chance to vie for prizes. Individual cash prizes of $1,000, $500, $250, $150 and $100 go to the five heaviest legal fish. There are also prizes for sixth through 10th place fish.

Team prizes based on combined weight are: first place, three Lamiglas rods with Okuma reels; second place, three Lamiglas Sturgeon Specials; and third place, three Lamiglas Sturgeon Specials. There are also parent/kid team prizes.

The tournament is limited to 500 anglers. Registration forms may be picked up at the Chinook Country Store. Late sign-ups will be from 5 to 6 a.m. June 19 at the weigh station at the Port of Chinook. Anglers may fish from daylight to the close of weigh-ins at 3 p.m. Dinner will be served for contest participants between 1 and 4 p.m. at Ilwaco High School. Prizes will be awarded at 4 p.m.

The SWWA sturgeon derby is sponsored by Boater's World, Lamiglas, Okuma, Dennis Company, Sportsman's Warehouse, D&G Bait Co., Englund Marine Supply Co., Western Filiment, Inc., Danner, Mustad, Jensen Communications, Inc., Motion Marine, Bob's, Snap-On, Super Printers and Gamakatsu.

Proceeds will benefit projects of Southwest Washington Anglers including donations to the Black Lake Children's Fish-in. The
