SEASIDE - For parents and kids who want to have some fun together, there's a new option in town: slot car racing.
Seaside residents Allen Evans and Joe Humphreys welcome race fans of all ages to the grand opening of the Seaside Raceway at 726 Broadway, from 2 to 10 p.m. Friday. "We used to race as kids, and we thought it would be something good for parents and children to do together," Evans said, "instead of just dropping off the kids at the arcade."
For $10, racers get two sodas, two candy bars, two cars and controllers for half an hour on the track. Cars and racetrack sets are also available for sale.
All proceeds from the opening day will go toward the rebuilding fund for Seaside Hall, also known as the "little yellow house," a meeting hall for 12-step support groups. Evans and Humphreys are both recovering addicts who say they look forward to promoting an alcohol- and drug-free atmosphere.
