Money from the federal stimulus package continues to reach the North Coast.
Sunset Empire Transportation District has learned that it will receive money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The direct will use the $465,224 to purchase buses, bus shelters and maintenance equipment.
The district has also submitted grant funding requests totaling over $2.3 million in stimulus and senior/disabled transit grant funding for the 2009-11 biennium.
These grants include Saturday services for dial a ride, a van for use by disabled veterans to medical appointments, extended fixed-route hours, expansion of services and better connectivity to Longview, Wash. and Portland.
"The Sunset Empire Transportation District has worked hard to meet the needs of Clatsop County. We're very pleased that much needed funding has come through which will allow us to continue and grow our service," said Marcia Fenske, chairwoman of the Sunset Empire Transportation District.
