SEASIDE - There will be an exhibit of student artworks May 5 through June 2 at the Seaside Public Library, 1131 Broadway, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 5.

The works include more than two dozen matted drawings and multimedia pieces by student artists ages 14 to 17. Mediums and themes include self-portraits in pencil, exploring art elements and principles such as value, pattern and balance of background and foreground. Sculptures explore symmetry and asymmetry in hand-built and wheel-thrown clay pots, as well as the mixed media sculptures. The latter include sculptures from plaster cloth, as well as wood sculptures from sticks, exploring negative and positive transference of space as a visual issue. Abstract collages explore the principles of composition, space, unity, rhythm and more. The Concepts Design class will exhibit display boards of the current design project - cell phones.
