The North Coast Chapter of Oregon Equestrian Trails will hold the 2009 Surf's Up Poker Ride on Sunday, starting at the Fort Stevens State Park Parking Lot "A" in Warrenton. The first riders out will be at 9 a.m.; the last rider out will be at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m.This event is open to the public.
There will be tickets instead of poker hands for the ride; prize tickets cost $5 each, or 5 tickets for $20. A group from Knappa High School will have lunches available for purchase. Participants are advised to bring their own horse's drinking water. No foals are allowed, but dogs on leashes are permitted.
In preparation for this event, the North Coast OET has worked to clean and clear portions of the Fort Stevens State Park trail system, which is popular with hikers, bicyclists and equestrians alike. Downed trees and brush have been removed from the trails, and the beach will be exceptionally clean thanks to the SOLV Beach Cleanup, which is on Saturday.
This annual fundraiser for OET helps pay for trail development, trail signs, camp maintenance and education on "Leave no Trace" practices. For information, call Lynne Leland at (503) 458-5241 or e-mail (email@example.com)
