"Another successful WINGS (Women Interested in Going to School) Conference and another happy winner of a beautiful leather jacket, donated by PAM and ERIC BEAL of North Coast Leather," PAT LEHMAN, co-chairwoman of the conference, wrote in an e-mail to the Ear. "Katherine Hazen of Naselle, Wash. (pictured, in a photo by KAREN KENYON), was one of the 44 women who attended the eighth annual conference Sept. 12."

The yearly event is sponsored by the Seaside and Astoria branches of American Association of University Women and Clatsop Community College, and provides information and inspiration to local women who want to continue their education.

"Motivation comes from presentations by state SEN. BETSY JOHNSON (a perennial hit), as well as women who have overcome major barriers to success," Lehman said, adding that "the WINGS committee is grateful to the college for making the conference possible, and to our community for its tremendous support."
