The Jewell School District added a new director to round out its five-member board at a regular meeting Monday night.
Board members selected Tania Skinner, a Jewell parent who works in software program management, from five applicants hoping to fill the seat formerly held by Teri Greenwood, who resigned her post in April to move out of the school district. She had lived in Birkenfeld while managing the West Coast Bank branch in North Plains, where she now lives full-time.
Skinner's name was already familiar to those in the district. A Jewell resident the past eight years, she has two young children at Jewell School, and has worked on the site council and school improvement plans. She regularly attended board meetings throughout the school year and tried for an open seat in the May election, losing by just six votes. Her term lasts through June 30, 2009.
In other business Monday, the Jewell School Board adopted a 2007-08 total budget of about $15 million and approved a permanent tax rate of $3.769 per $1,000 assessed property value to support the general fund.
