CLATSKANIE - The Great Vow Monastery offers a Ceremony of Remembrance from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Jizo Bodhisattva remembrance garden. Jizo Bodhisattva is regarded as the caretaker of women, children, travelers, monks, firefighters and those who have died. The ceremony is done in silence.

Participants will make personal memorial items for loved ones, such as a written message, making a toy or necklace or sewing a small garment. Materials will be available, but people may bring scissors, thread, needle, a small piece of red cloth and a photo of the loved one. The memorial will be left on the Jizo statues. Families and friends are welcome to revisit the garden any time. There is no charge and it is open to everyone, regardless of religious affiliation.
