GEARHART - The weather is always warm and comfortable at Trail's End Art Association - both in the gallery and the classroom. And during Seaside's First Saturday Art Walk, from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 6, there will be a gallery exhibition of all new art pieces, a wine and refreshments reception and a painting demonstration by Joan Masat.
Masat will demonstrate how to develop a landscape painting from a photograph. Her chosen medium is acrylics and she often draws from photographs, follows up with a sketch, and then completes her work in acrylics. Masat also likes to go out into nature and paint on site, a technique known as en plein air, preferring landscapes and old buildings. Bright, bold colors enhance her seemingly simple folk art style. Her work has been selected for the international juried competition "Au Naturel" at Clatsop Community College and has shown and sold at Grace Episcopal Gallery and the Shearwater Gallery in Seaside as well as the TEAA gallery.
Trail's End changes the theme of the exhibit monthly. The theme for March is "Monochromatic" and will feature the works of many local artists with a variety of paintings, photography, ceramics, custom jewelry and cards with unique designs, along with unframed photography and art prints.
Ongoing classes include instruction in drawing, pastels, watercolors, linoleum block printing and the monthly themes in various mediums.
