CLATSKANIE - Oregon State Police troopers are investigating a Wednesday afternoon fatal crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 30 at Clatskanie Hill east of Clatskanie. Troopers are asking for the public's help to develop information from witnesses before or at the time of the crash to help with the investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that shortly after 1 p.m. a red 2009 Hyundai Sonata four-door driven by an elderly adult male was westbound on Highway 30 near milepost 59. The driver reported pulling onto the shoulder after he noted something struck the car's windshield. The driver walked back and saw an adult male lying in the ditch along the highway.

Emergency personnel responded and pronounced the man lying in the ditch deceased. The victim reportedly has a grey beard and was wearing a black jacket, brown pants, and had a black nylon day backpack. He has not been positively identified.

Highway 30 was closed for sometime before being reopened..

OSP troopers investigating this fatal crash are asking to speak to anyone who saw the victim pedestrian walking in the area, or anyone who witnessed the crash to call OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at (800) 452-7888.

OSP is being assisted at the scene by Clatskanie Fire Department and ODOT.
