SEASIDE - The Necanicum Watershed Council and other friends of the Neawanna Estuary will have a work party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to attempt to rescue a stand of Sitka spruce trees from the smothering grip of English ivy.

Volunteers should meet at the east end of Avenue G, next to Neawanna Creek.

Workers can bring the family, loppers and other suitable tools and dress for the weather. A volunteer appreciation barbecue will follow the work. The council promises they'll have more than just hot dogs. For information, call Dave Godsey at (503) 368 7424.
