The Daily Astorian has alerted law enforcement authorities about the activities of a business called United Directories, which is claiming links to the newspaper.

Businesses on the North Coast have reportedly been receiving calls from a man at "United Directories" calling and leaving a 309 (Illinois) area code.

The caller purports to be calling on behalf of the newspaper and the Astoria-Warrenton Area of Chamber of Commerce.

The newspaper and chamber jointly publish a visitors guide each year. However, all advertising for inclusion in the guide is handled by Daily Astorian staff members.

Astoria Police have opened a file on the case. Anyone with information about fraudulent activity is asked to call the police at (503) 325-6411.
