Customers of the Youngs River Lewis and Clark Water District will be out of water until a water main leak can be repaired.

The leak, discovered Thursday, is in a five-mile section on Youngs River Road.

According to Peggy Pogue, office manager at the water district, a leak detection firm from Seattle is working on the problem. Reservoirs have been drained to find the leak, which authorities believe is located in a field that is mostly under water.

In the meantime, customers can take their containers to get drinking water, supplied with help from the City of Astoria, to the parking lot at Bayview Baptist Church, 490 Olney Ave., just across the old Youngs Bay Bridge.

Lewis and Clark Elementary School was closed today because of the water shortage.
