Fire crews in Central Oregon continue to battle a large wildfire north of Madras.  The Deadman Canyon Fire started Monday evening after lightening storms passed thought the region.

Lisa Clark is a fire information officer.  She says favorable weather conditions helped fire crews make significant progress overnight.

“We’re now calling the fire 20 percent contained.  If things continue to go the way they are we do expect containment probably tomorrow evening at the earliest.”

Clark says the same spate of lightning strikes this week caused two other fires north of Prineville in the Sutton Mountain Wilderness Study Area.

Fire crews are working to contain two blazes which together have burned about 1500 acres.
