The Astoria branch of Wells Fargo Bank is planning "Team Up for Our Schools" events to support the Astoria School District this week.

On Friday, in the parking lot of the bank at 1218 Commercial St., staff will be selling barbecued hot dogs - two for $1 with 50-cent drinks - with proceeds benefiting the school district.

The branch staff are holding a telethon during the week, signing up new checking account customers. The bank will donate up to $40 for every new consumer checking account opened with selected services through Oct. 16. Those services include direct deposit, online bill pay and a credit card and debit card.

There will also be lobby displays of a school supply barrel and fish bowls for cash donations.

Last year, Wells Fargo donated money through the program to numerous districts and schools in the area, including $700 to Astoria schools.

"Our staff is genuinely committed to exceed last year's success," said the bank manager, John Lansing.
