A Westport man died early this morning in a collision in U.S. Highway 30.

Michael Clark, 31, was driving westbound at about 1:45 a.m. about two miles east of Westport when his Toyota pickup drifted over the centerline directly into the path of an oncoming chip truck, according to Oregon State Police.

The driver of the chip truck, Martin Hernandez, 38, of Centralia, Wash., attempted evasive action but was unable to avoid the collision, according to OSP. Clark was killed on impact but Hernandez escaped injury.
