Here's a chance to put your imagination to work. The OREGON COAST AQUARIUM is holding a "NAME THE SEA LIONS" CONTEST for its two new family members, who are pictured above. Both sea lions are female, around nine months old, and for the moment have the very unimaginative names of Nos. 295 and 417. Each one is blind in one eye, making them unable to catch fish efficiently, so they are not candidates for being released in the wild.
Entry forms are available in the Aquarium lobby, or names can be submitted online by e-mailing (firstname.lastname@example.org). The names will be chosen by Aquarium mammal staff and announced April 3, when the "girls" will be moved out of quarantine to a temporary holding pool for another 30 days. They will go on display to the public May 3.
The two winning entries will receive Aquarium gift baskets.
