Astoria police are looking for a man who assaulted a 22-year-old Astoria woman Thursday night as she was walking home from a downtown bar. The woman told police she was walking in the 1600 block of Duane Street around midnight when a man grabbed her from behind, threw her to the ground and punched her in the face. She said he pulled up her sweatshirt during the attack but made no attempt to touch her. The victim told police she fought back, striking the man several times. Police said the woman's lips and eye were swollen.

The assailant is described as a Hispanic man of average height and build, dressed in a dark-colored zip-up style sweatshirt and dark blue jeans. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Astoria Police Detective Brian Slotte at 338-6411, ext. 24.
