CANNON BEACH - The U.S. Coast Guard and Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue personnel searched unsuccessfully for an unidentified woman who walked into the ocean Wednesday night.

Around midnight, two people spotted a woman sitting by a campfire near the SurfSand Resort. They went up to talk to her because she looked depressed. The woman then got up and walked into the ocean, said Jeff Gearhart, U.S. Coast Guard senior chief.

The woman appeared to be in her late teens.

The individuals called 9-1-1. Cannon Beach rescuers combed the shore and the Coast Guard launched an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter. Another helicopter crew searched again at dawn.

They didn't find anyone, and no one has been reported missing.
