Carl Raymond Stone, 84, of Olney, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at home.
He was born March 9, 1927, in Sherwood, to Harold and Anna (Stahl) Stone.
He attended Middleton Elementary School and Echo High School. He received a degree in fire science technology from Clatsop Community College.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea.
On Dec. 24, 1949, he married Gladys Payson in Battle Ground, Wash. She survives, residing in Olney. The couple moved to Astoria in 1950.
Mr. Stone was a firefighter for the city of Astoria. He retired as battalion chief in 1982.
He was a member of Olney Community Church for 45 years, and was a past noble grand of the Independent Order of Oddfellows.
Family members said he was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed outdoor activities. He also enjoyed visiting with friends and family and playing cribbage and Yahtzee.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Eleanor Stone of Chiloquin, Al and Betty Stone of Klamath Falls and Lee and Sue Stone of Tualatin; a sister, Sally Busher of Port Hueneme, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Kathy Stone of Whittier, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Rosanna and Bernie Gildner of Knappa; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Sherry Stone of Ariel, Wash.; three grandchildren, Edward Stone of Moscow, Idaho, and Benjamin and?Daisy Gildner of Knappa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Floyd Stone.
Mr. Stone requested that there be no service.
