Cathy Jean Riser, 58, of Astoria, died Friday, July 29, 2011, in Astoria.
She was born Dec. 9, 1952, in Seaside, to Clarence Ray and Jean Sullivan Weichal. She was raised in the Nehalem and Manzanita area.
Mrs. Riser came to Astoria from Nehalem in 1977. She worked as a cook and bartender before she owned and operated Royal Cab Company from 1996 until her failing health forced her into retirement.
Family members said she enjoyed spending time with her family and fishing with her husband. She loved gambling.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Lynn Riser of Astoria; a daughter, Jeanne Reeves and her husband, Rob, of Astoria; a son, Travis Weichal of Warrenton; two stepdaughters, Christina Bloomfield and Jennifer Lyon of Astoria; a stepson, Danny Riser of Astoria; three sisters, Penny Crist of Nehalem, Linda Flukinger of Knappa and Lucy VanOosten of Clatskanie; a brother, Jack Weichal of Nehalem; and five grandchildren, Joshua and Jake Reeves, Jander and Renee Riser and Jade Morgan, all of Astoria; a niece, Cindy Overstreet of Scappoose; and many other nephews and nieces.
By Mrs. Riser's request, there will be no formal public service. There will be a private gathering of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Columbia Hospice, in care of Ocean View Cremation & Burial Service, 1213 Franklin Ave., Astoria, OR 97103.
