Cathy Lou Bjork, 63, of Portland, died July 12, 2011 in Portland.

She was born Oct. 9, 1947 in Astoria to John and Lou (Nyman)?Bjork. Her parents preceded her in death.

She lived in Astoria until attending the University of Oregon, where she received a degree in journalism. She was an avid Duck fan. She lived in Portland after graduation, where she held various positions in journalism, publishing and advertising. Prior to her retirement in 2006, she used her skills at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Beaverton, on the church bulletin and other publications. She was active in church and community outreach, taught Sunday School, and participated in the bell choir. 

She was a people person who enjoyed helping others. There wasn’t a dog she didn’t like, and she spent many hours with a dog in her lap. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and was involved with the Scandinavian Society, holding many offices during her active years.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 10390 S.W. Canyon Road in Beaverton.

Interment has already taken place at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
