Hubert C. Ball, 92, of Seaside, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, surrounded by family at his home near Seaside.
He was born Nov. 6, 1918 in Lawton, Okla., to John and Ollie Ball.
He attended school in Lawton and Hollis, Okla. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Army and received a Bronze Star for his service as a technician 5 in the Philippine liberation in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign in World War II.
In 1948, he married Hazel Emily Pollard. She died earlier.
The couple settled in Albuquerque, N.M., where Mr. Ball worked as an electrician for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad Company. After 29 years of service, in Albuquerque and briefly in San Bernardino, Calif. he retired in 1980. He enjoyed oil painting, fishing and visits to friends and family during his long retirement.
In 2008, he moved to Seaside to be near his sister, Shirley See, and lived with his niece and her husband, Dana and Craig Weston. Twelve nieces, nephews and their children survive.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ball was preceded in death by a sister Alma Barber, and three brothers, Luke, Jack, and Harlan Ball.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at Sunset Memorial Park & Mausoleum in Albuquerque, N.M.
