James Hill

Shelton, Wash.

Aug. 29, 1937 — Jan. 11, 2015

James Robert “Jim” Hill, a lifelong resident of the Peninsula, died in Shelton, Wash., on Jan. 11, 2015. The son of Raymond and Ida (Hendrickson) Hill, he was born in Astoria on Aug. 29, 1937. Jim lived with his family in Seaside until age 12, when the family moved to Long Beach. Jim grew up on the Peninsula, where he made many lifelong friends, attended local grade school and was a 1956 graduate of Ilwaco High School. Jim never forgot his roots at Ilwaco High, and was a lifelong supporter of the Fishermen.

Jim worked for the Ray Hill Logging Company locally, initially as a choker setter and then as bookkeeper until retirement. Jim resided at the family home in Long Beach until October of 2014, when illness necessitated his move to Shelton.

Jim was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seaview. There he served as treasurer, and also with the Peninsula Church Center Utilization Committee. Following his beloved Ilwaco Fishermen’s various sport endeavors was a lifelong passion, and Jim was a familiar face in the stands for many, many years.

Jim never married. He is survived by his brother John (Debbie) Hill of Shelton, Wash.; nieces and nephews Kristin, Ken, Jonathan, Eric and Marissa. He was preceded in death by his brother Stan Hill, and nephew Jay Hill.

Graveside service and vault interment will be Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at Peaceful Hill Cemetery in Naselle.
