Lawrence Hill

San Diego

Feb. 8, 1942 — Aug. 29, 2018

Lawrence Dale Hill, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia/Alzheimer’s, in Cardiff, California, on Aug. 29, 2018, at the age of 76.

Larry was born in Hood River, Oregon, and is survived by his two sons, Kevin and Brian; his grandson, Ryan; and his granddaughter, Ava Anne. He is also survived by his sister, Sandi Kinsley; his stepbrother, Bill Wyatt; and stepsisters, Anne and Jane Wyatt. Larry’s wife, Anne, passed away suddenly in 2008.

Larry’s parents, Kenneth and Faye Hill, brought Larry to Astoria, Oregon, where he spent his childhood and high school years. Kenneth died tragically in a trucking accident during Larry’s senior year. Faye would eventually marry future Oregon Congressman Wendell Wyatt.

While attending Astoria High School, Larry excelled at football and earned first team All-Metro honors both his junior and senior seasons. He played baseball and basketball, as well, and was named to multiple all-conference teams. His athletic accomplishments eventually earned him an induction into the Astoria High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Larry accepted a scholarship to the University of Oregon and played under the tutelage of legendary coach Len Casanova. He earned three letters while at Oregon and, during the 1962 season, he won the Dudley Clarke Trophy, given to the most improved player. Larry fondly earned the nickname “Stumps” by his fellow Duck teammates. As a senior he was voted co-captain, and led the team to the 1963 Sun Bowl. Larry finished his college football career by being chosen to play in the Hula Bowl in Hawaii.

While in college, Larry met his future bride to be, Anne Feigenson. They would eventually marry in Portland in 1965. Upon taking his first sales job with Bumble Bee Seafoods, they promptly moved to Maryland, where they had their first child, Kevin. After a brief stint in Dallas, they made their way back to Seattle, where they made Laurelhurst their home for the remainder of both of their lives. Larry and Anne had their second son, Brian, in 1974.

In the early 1980s, Larry’s sales career eventually brought him to Icicle Seafoods, where he served as vice president of sales. He made many trips to Alaska, South America and Japan. Larry was a legend in the seafood business, and made numerous friends around the world. Larry retired in 2008.

Larry was an avid golfer, skier and tennis player. He made sure his boys were well versed in all sports, spending many nights and weekends at Laurelhurst Park throwing batting practice, or tossing around the football.

Larry was a member at Broadmoor Golf Club and the Seattle Tennis Club. Larry also loved the Oregon Ducks, and nothing made him happier than seeing the Ducks beat the Huskies. Amazingly, he was successful in turning both Kevin and Brian into Ducks fans while living in Husky territory. Larry’s boys were at his side when he passed, and they will be forever grateful for all that he provided and taught them.

We love you Dad, and you will never be forgotten.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in Larry’s honor on Monday, Sept. 10, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, 4900 N.E. 50th St., Seattle, WA 98105.

Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 5041 35th Ave. N.E. Seattle, WA., 98105.

Flowers should be directed to St. Bridget’s Church.
