Marlene Elizabeth Haikkila Velasquez, 61, of Astoria, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, in Portland.
She was born July 1, 1950, in Astoria, to LeRoy and Delores (Espedal) Haikkila. Her mother preceded her in death. Her father and stepmother, Katherine Haikkila, survive, residing in Estacada.
She attended Astoria schools.
In 1982, she married Armondo Velasquez in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Velasquez worked at Bumble Bee Seafoods and Bornsteins Seafoods for a time. She lived in Clatsop County all her life.
Family members said she loved salmon, flowers and animals.
In addition to her father and stepmother, she is survived by a son, Bryan Finger of Idaho; her partner, Carl Stoltz of Astoria; two sisters, Diane Telen and her husband, Vern, of Columbia City and Yvonne Durant and her partner, Chris Thompson; a brother, Dan Haikkila of Mulino; two stepsisters and their spouses, Diane and David Lomeli and Velma and Glen Strickland, all of Estacada; three nephews, Jeff Telen and his wife, Tracy, of Astoria, Keith Durant of Victoria, Australia, and Steve Telen; and a niece, Lynette Johnson and her husband, Cal, of Beaverton.
A memorial and lunch will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Warren Community Fellowship, 56523 Columbia River Highway in Warren.
Emilys Cremation and Burial Services in Portland is in charge of the arrangements.
