Lillian C. Beghtol

Teacher, 93Lillian C. Beghtol, 93, of Seaside, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 in Seaside.

Mrs. Beghtol was born May 28, 1910 in Galesburg, Ill., to Ray and Grace Coleman. She was raised and attended school in Iowa, graduating from Parsons College in 1932.

On Dec. 30, 1932, she married Leroy C. Beghtol in Galesburg. He died in 1968.

The Beghtols moved to Keno and then to Cottage Grove in the 1940s. Later they moved to Portland and in 1951, to Oak Grove.

After her children were raised, Mrs. Beghtol worked as a teacher, teaching cooking skills to underprivileged families. She also taught at Chemewa Indian School in Keizer, Concorde Grade School in Milwaukie and home economics at the junior high school level. She settled in Seaside after her husband's death.

Family members said she loved her friends at Suzanne Elise Assisted Living and enjoyed reading, quilting and knitting. She also belonged to a sewing group.

Mrs. Beghtol is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Coleman and Lea Beghtol of Seaside and Jerry Beghtol of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Alice Howard of Salem; eight grandchildren, Colette Zakel of Portland, Lori Beghtol of Aloha, Heather Beghtol of Durango, Colo., Jed Beghtol of Aloha, Lee Beghtol of Portland, Wendy Talbert of Monroe, Wash., Darin Howard of Dundee and Catherine Howard of Salem; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Commery Warrell of Aurora, Colo.; and two sisters-in-law, Edna Boggs of Kirkland, Wash., and Dorothy Shelman of Stockton, Calif. Three brothers died earlier.

A private family service will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seaside Public Library Memorial Fund, in care of Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, 220 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside, OR 97138.
