Birdene Lucille Freyer Woods, 85, of Newport, formerly of Astoria, died Sunday, May 13, 2007, in Newport, of an aortic aneurysm.
She was born April 1, 1922, in Norwich, Conn., to Edward William Clarence and Hazel Lucille (Root) Freyer. Her parents preceded her in death.
Mrs. Woods graduated from Norwich Free Academy and took community college courses.
She married to K.B. Woods in Atlanta in 1945. He preceded her in death.
In 1950, she married David Jezeski at St. James Perish, Conn. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Woods worked at an underwater sound lab in Groton, Conn., was a psychiatric assistant at the Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn., an elementary school teacher in Arco, Idaho, and a legal secretary for J. Whiteside in Modesto, Calif.
She was a member of various art clubs, the Eugene O'Neil Theater in Waterford, Conn., the Coaster Theatre in Cannon Beach and most recently, the J.O.Y. Group at the Church of the Nazarene in Newport.
Family members said she enjoyed art, reading, praying, walking on the beach and baking and cooking.
Mrs. Woods is survived by a daughter, Ann Jezeski of Newport; two granddaughters, Tessa and Amber Klein of Newport; a brother, Richard Freyer of Uncasville, Conn.; a sister, Barbara Heckendorf of Modesto, Calif., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond and Ronald "Woodie" Woods; and a sister, Audrey McDonald.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. June 9 at the Newport Church of the Nazarene in Newport. A reception will follow.
