Evelyn V. Chittim
Seaside resident, 92Evelyn V. Chittim, 92, of Seaside, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, in Seaside.
Mrs. Chittim was born May 28, 1910, in Webster, S.D., to Adolph Block and Susanna Anderson. She grew up in South Dakota and moved to Astoria when she was 17.
In 1930, she married Clifford Chittim. He died in 1985.
She graduated from Astoria High School in 1927. She lived in Port Angeles, Wash., Fairbanks, Alaska, and Seaside. She and her husband managed several Seaside motels. She also decorated cakes at Harrison's Bakery and later taught cake decorating at Clatsop Community College. Family members say she loved being a mother and grandmother, as well as sewing, gardening and playing golf.
She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, InaRae and Bill Ussack of Chinook, Wash., Carol and John Gates of Hammond, Valerie and Mark Winstanley of Seaside, and Lee Ellen Brown of Seaside; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Diane Chittim of Portland; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews in Oregon, Alaska and Washington.
Memorial service is 5 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1403 S. Wahanna Road in Seaside.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doernbecher Children's Hospital, 3181 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road., Portland, OR 97201.
