Capt. Ellis 'LeRoy' Clark
River pilot, 70Capt. E. "LeRoy" Clark, 70, of Rainier, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in Longview, Wash.
Capt. Clark was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Garibaldi, to Leo Ronald and Mary Gertrude Philbrook Clark.
On June 28, 1952, he married Jean C. Zimmerman in Kalama, Wash. She survives, residing in Rainier.
Capt. Clark served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal, W/I Bronze Service Star, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He worked on the Columbia River for 43 years, 20 years as a tugboat captain and 23 years as a Columbia River pilot. He retired in 1996.
He was a member of the Columbia River Pilots, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1909 in Rainier, Portland Maritime Museum and the Korean Veterans' Association. He enjoyed traveling in his R.V., fishing, hunting, boating and developing his land in Delena.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Clark of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Lonny and Kathy Clark of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Brad Pederson of Vancouver; three brothers, Lyle Clark of Rainier, Corky Clark of Clatskanie and Ed Ridderbusch of Ontario, Calif.; a sister, Marwayne Wagner of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rainier Assembly of God, 74950 Rockcrest Road. Interment of ashes is private.
