Joseph Ward Connelly

World War II veteran, 80Joseph Ward Connelly, 80, of Westport died at his home Nov. 19, 2002.

Mr. Connelly was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Fortuna, Calif., to Joseph Carl and Lydia Mae (Tealer) Connelly.

He received his education in Aberdeen, Wash.

A veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, Mr. Connelly specialized as an auto equipment mechanic and rifleman. His campaigns included the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland as part of the 9th Army.

Mr. Connelly received the Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, European Theater Ribbon and the American Theater Ribbon.

He worked as electrician for Air Craft Manufacturing. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping.

Survivors include two brothers, Carl Connelly of Aberdeen and William Connelly of Westport; two sisters, Mildred Wilson of Vancouver, Wash., and Laeuna Hollingsworth of Grayland, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no service. Haakinson-Groulx Mortuary of Clatskanie is in charge of cremation.
