Myrtle L. Hawkins Crowder
Home health provider, 69Myrtle L. Hawkins Crowder, 69, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Astoria.
Mrs. Crowder was born March 25, 1934, in Springfield, Mo., to Dewey A. and Ruby L. Worrell Higginbotham.
She grew up and attended school in Sacramento, Calif., and married Kenneth Hawkins there in 1951. He died earlier.
On Sept. 21, 1968, she married Harley Crowder in South Bend, Wash. He died in 1997.
Mrs. Crowder came to Astoria in 1968, working first as a waitress, then at the Bumble Bee Seafood Cannery. She was an in-home health care provider for most of her career.
Family members say Mrs. Crowder had a great love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and had a special way of making everyone feel important. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her pets.
Mrs. Crowder is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Sue Hawkins, Mark and Lisa Hawkins, and Kevin and Pam Hawkins, all of Astoria; four step-sons, Harley Crowder Jr. of Hillsboro, Dennis Crowder of Warrenton and Danny and Mike Crowder of Colorado; a stepdaughter, Diane Crowder Arcenaux of Colorado; 10 grandchildren and five spouses, Rick and Lorna Hawkins, Jeffrey and Marjo Hawkins, Kristina and Richard Afornorpe, Michael, Teresa, Benjamin, Joey and Kevin Hawkins Jr., all of Astoria; Jason and Alicia Hawkins of Warrenton and Tennille and Trevor Inman of Toledo, Wash.; and three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Caleb Hawkins of Astoria and Hazen Inman of Toledo. Two sons, Harvey and Gilbert Hawkins, and a sister, June Landrus, died earlier.

A memorial is noon Friday at the First Baptist Church of Warrenton, 30 N.E. First St.
