Shirley A. Dichter

Gearhart resident, 75Shirley A. Dichter, 75, of Gearhart, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at Lower Columbia Hospice house in Warrenton.

Mrs. Dichter was born Sept. 4, 1928 in Judith Gap, Mont., to Carl and Clara Sorenson. The family moved to Kalispell, Mont., when she was 6 years old. She worked on the family farm during the Great Depression driving a tractor, and later worked for Mountain Power in Kalispell. After moving to Portland, in 1949, she worked for Continental Can Company for several years.

She married Ralph Dichter in Portland in 1957. They moved to Gearhart where they lived for the last 47 years. He survives, residing in Gearhart.

Mrs. Dichter was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in the quilting group. Family members said she enjoyed reading the Bible, hiking, bird watching and knitting and took pleasure in puzzles and games with her grandchildren. She was a member of Astoria Golf & Country Club.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Dichter is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ralph Dichter Jr., of Gearhart and Brent and Dorothy Dichter of Scotts Valley, Calif.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Jerry Olson and Jody and Frank Orell, all of Warrenton, and Jill and Larry Stryker of Camas, Wash.; one sister, Wilma Corneliuson of Kalispell; 14 grandchildren, Kena Boer, Todd Engblom-Stryker, Krista Stryker, Jolee, Daniel, Dennis and Donny Sturgell, Shannon, Carly and Heidi Scott, Mitchell and Nelson Dichter, Matthew and Michelle Olson; and four great-grandchildren Riley Sturgell, Lily Engblom-Stryker and Braxton and Wyatt Boer. She was preceded in death by her sister Norma Johnson.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 320 First Ave. in Seaside. Interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
