Aileen R. C. M. Friel

Seaside resident, 94Aileen Rachel Cowan McCann Friel, 94, of Seaside, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005 in Seaside.

Mrs. Friel was born May 17, 1911 in Trenton, Ga., to Thomas T. and Sarah E. Cowan.

When she was 7, Mrs. Friel moved to San Francisco. She married Herbert Friel in Lovelock, Nev., in 1944. He died in 1998.

Following her husband's career, the family lived all over the globe, including the Hawaiian Islands, the Philippines, Panama, Khartoum, Sudan and Scotland.

They also lived in Hagerstown, Md., where Mrs. Friel worked in real estate from 1952 to 1960. The couple retired to Eugene in 1968, where Mrs. Friel was active with the Welcome Wagon. In 1998, she moved to Seaside.

Mrs. Friel was a member of the Presbyterian Church most of her life. She enjoyed bridge, social activities and reading. Family members said she always had a Boston terrier with her.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and George Cook of Sonora, Calif., and Susan and Eddie Park of Seaside; five grandchildren, Diana L.R. Boyd, Scott Bruner Russell, Thomas Matthew Russell, Amanda Marie Russell and Amelia Irene Russell; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries in Seaside.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Clatsop County Animal Shelter, in care of Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries, 220 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside, OR 97138.
