James Edward Gallagher Jr.
Ski instructor, 73James Edward Gallagher Jr., 73, of Wheeler, died Wednesday, Dec.1, 2004 in Wheeler.
Mr. Gallagher was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Grace and James Gallagher.
Mr. Gallagher graduated in 1950 from Garfield Heights High School in Garfield Heights, Ohio.
On Jan. 2, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Roberts. She preceded him in death Oct. 31, 2004.
Mr. Gallagher lived most of his life in Ohio, moving to Colorado in 1993 and to South Carolina in 1996 before moving to Wheeler in 2001.
Mr. Gallagher worked as a ski instructor for more than 30 years. From 1993 to 1996, he was a member of the Vail Ski School. In addition to being a ski instructor, Mr. Gallagher also worked as an insurance salesmen, owning his own insurance agency.
Family members said Mr. Gallagher was a gifted and patient teacher who deeply loved the sport of skiing and shared his enthusiasm freely with all who knew him. He also enjoyed golf, tennis, classic cars, travel and gun and coin collecting.
Mr. Gallagher is survived by his sister, Shirley Muke of Englewood, Fla.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Bell and Susan Gallagher, all of Portland; two granddaughters, Jamie Pfeiffer of Chicago and Kerry Bell of Portland.
A memorial service was held earlier.
Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Portland.
