Sidney O. Gaustad
Telephone foreman, 82Sidney O. Gaustad, 82, of Seaside, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, in Warrenton.
Mr. Gaustad was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Houston, Minn., to Peter and Clara Ness Gaustad. He was raised and educated in Minnesota.
On Dec. 23, 1949, he married Beulah Pierce in Anchorage, Alaska. She survives, living in Seaside.
Mr. Gaustad enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in Normandy, northern France and in central Europe. He was discharged in 1945. He worked in civil service as a telephone technician foreman for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1981 and moving to Seaside in 1988.
In Seaside, Mr. Gaustad was a member of Seaside American Legion Post 99, Seaside Elks Lodge and the Royal Order of the Moose, Seaside Lodge.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Mr. Gaustad is survived by two daughters, Karen Merrill of Louisville, Colo., and Christine Ebstein of Clinton, Mass.; a son, Richard Gaustad of Magna, Utah; two brothers, Cyrus Gaustad of Port Hueneme, Calif., and Neil Gaustad of Houston, Minn.; two sisters, Irene Tweito of Waukon, Iowa, and Ann Cauthen of San Diego; and eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Meghan and Diane Merrill, Kelsey and Eric Gaustad, Christopher Johnson and Ian and Lauren Ebstein.
Funeral is 1 p.m. Saturday at the Seaside American Legion Hall, 1315 Broadway. Private interment will be at Wilamette National Cemetery in Portland.
