Joseph Gordon Gaynor

Hammond resident, 78Joseph Gordon Gaynor, 78, of Hammond, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in Astoria.

Mr. Gaynor was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Calumet, Minn., the oldest of seven children to Joseph and Bertilda Gaynor.

Mr. Gaynor graduated from R.L. Downing High School in Keewatin, Minn., in 1942. He served with the U.S. Army with the 814th Engineering Battalion in Africa and Italy. He returned home to recover from malaria, then joined the reserves at Fort Lewis and went to Korea, where he was shot in the line of duty and sent to hospital in Tokyo, Japan. He returned to the United States and moved West. He worked at several jobs along the Columbia River, and in Astoria and Warrenton. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing.

He is survived by three brothers and two sisters.
