Harold Douglas Campbell, 86, of Lihue, Hawaii, formerly of Astoria, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, in Lihue.

He was born March 20, 1926, in Burns, to Douglas Allen Campbell and Lanora Marie Groff. He was raised in Burns.

In 1947, he married Dorothy Adeline Dempsey. She preceded him in death.

He married Joan Ward Campbell. She also preceded him in death.

In 1968, Mr. Campbell settled in Astoria with his family and purchased Excel Sanitation Service, which he owned until his retirement in 1982.

Family members said he enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening and fishing.

He is survived by two siblings, Alice Lux and Louise Dodson; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Suzy Campbell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Dan Nichols, Janeene and Todd Norris and Laureen and Darin Wullger; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two siblings, Wallace Campbell and Alma Morris.
