George M. Hediger
Businessman, 84George M. Hediger, 84, of Astoria, died Monday, March 10, 2003, in Astoria.
Mr. Hediger was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Tillamook.
On Dec. 28, 1943, he married Mabel Bejaul in Seaside. She died in 1997.
Mr. Hediger graduated from Tillamook High School before moving to Clatsop County and joining the U.S. Army. In 1952, he opened Astoria Janitor & Paper Supply and worked there until retirement in 1989.
He was a member of the American Legion Clatsop Post No. 12, Astoria Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 2189, Elks BPOE Lodge No. 180, Astoria Golf and Country Club and St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He was a past exalted ruler of the Elks. He enjoyed golf and was a referee for local basketball and football during the 1940s and 1950s.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Pat Hediger of Astoria; a daughter, Jean Stauffer of Portland; two grandsons, Chip Stauffer and George Hediger III, both of Portland; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Stanley of Portland and Florence Burnham of Tolovana Park; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At the family's request, there will be no service. A public reception will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Astoria Elks Lodge, 453 11th St., Astoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clatsop County Historical Society, P.O. Box 88, Astoria, OR 97103.
