Alvin Loyd Holdiman Jr.

Fisherman, 62Alvin Loyd Holdiman Jr., 62, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in Portland.

Mr. Holdiman was born March 11, 1940, in Astoria, to Alvin Holdiman Sr. and Joan Wilkinson. His father survives, residing in Seaside.

On June 6, 1959, he married Clara Sorensen in Wauna. She survives, residing in Warrenton.

Mr. Holdiman was raised and educated in Astoria. At the age of 16, he began fishing and never stopped.

He enjoyed the outdoors, the ocean, camping, clam digging, playing bingo and being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed being with his three cats: Boy, Little Bit and Omelette. Family members say he loved helping others and will be remembered for his rough exterior and gentle interior.

In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Julie and Monte Salmi, and Sherry Wright, all of Astoria; a son, Alvin Holdiman III of Kodiak, Alaska; nine grandchildren, Jodi, Jennifer and Michael Salmi, and Kiley Wright, all of Astoria, Jesse and Matt Kinnunen of Knappa, Alina Holdiman of Salem, Alvin Holdiman IV of Kodiak and Joseph Holdiman of Nevada; a brother and sister-in-law, Lewin and Susan Holdiman of Astoria; a sister and brother-in-law, LaMarrlene and Delbert Lanier of Seattle; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Arnold and Judy Sorensen of Rainier, Larry and Martie Sorensen of Novato, Calif., and Ben Sorensen of Wauna; his mother-in-law, Edna Sorensen of Wauna; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A granddaughter, Misty Dawn Holdiman, died earlier.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria. Funeral is 3 p.m. Saturday at Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary, with private interment at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
