Robert L. 'Bobbi' Iles
Seaside resident, 56Robert L. "Bobbi" Iles, 56, of Seaside, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in Warrenton.
Mr. Iles was born April 29, 1946, in London, England, to Stella and Leslie Iles. His mother survives, residing in Seaside.
Mr. Iles started work at the age of 10, carrying luggage at a London train station. He immigrated to Canada in 1955, then traveled to Los Angeles. He rode a bicycle throughout Mexico and was a crew member and chef on several large yachts sailing the Pacific. He also spent several years in Hawaii. In the mid-1970s, he moved to Seaside and managed several restaurants before focusing on buying, selling and trading cars.
He asked that his car be gassed up and parked outside his hospice house so he could "hit the road" if he had a chance. Family members say he loved anything to do with cars, writing poetry and had a cynical but humorous outlook on life.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Linda Savage of Seaside and Valerie Hine of Darwin, Australia; a brother, Peter Iles of Elizabethon, Tenn.; as well as many friends.
Cremation has been held and his ashes were scattered at sea.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House, in care of Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, 220 N. Holladay, Seaside, OR 97138.
