Reid Chalmers Jacobson
Ice cream man, 76Reid Chalmers Jacobson, 76, of Astoria, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 in Astoria.
Mr. Jacobson was born June 20, 1928 in Brookings, S.D., to Julius C. and Matilda Halweg Jacobson.
Mr. Jacobson moved to Eugene in 1944, where he graduated from Eugene High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Va. In 1950, he was called back because of the Korean War.
He married Patricia Williams Jan. 29, 1949 in Eugene. She survives, living in Astoria.
Mr. Jacobson was a driver and salesman for Dutch Girl Ice Cream in Eugene from 1954 until his retirement in 1985. He and his wife also managed Park Grove Apartments and opened Lincoln School Apartments in Eugene.
He was a member of the Elks Club in Springfield, the Billie Boosters at Pleasant Hill and a longtime member of the University of Oregon's Men's Club.
Mr. Jacobson and his wife moved to Astoria in 1998.
Family members said he enjoyed woodworking and was a big fan of the University of Oregon's football and basketball teams.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Jacobson is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Debra Jacobson of Las Vegas and Gary and Debra Jacobson of Knappa; a son and companion, Michael Jacobson and Nikki Gascoigne of Cullaby Lake; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Steve Reed of Edmond, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Jacobson was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Craig Jacobson.
A private family service will be held.
