Judith Diane "Judy" Crowston, 70, of Ocean Park, Wash., died Tuesday, April 27, 2010, in Portland.

She was born Feb. 8, 1940, in Olympia, Wash., to Vitus and Helen (Cleveland) Brooks. Her parents preceded her in death.

She graduated from Federal Way (Wash.) High School, where she was a cheerleader and a homecoming princess.

On April 18, 1959, she married Val Crowston, in Federal Way. He preceded her in death March 18, 2007.

Mrs. Crowston worked as a nurse in obstetrics. After visiting the Long Beach (Wash.) Peninsula over the years, she and her husband built a home there in 1996.

Family members said she loved the beauty of the beach and the community. She enjoyed reading and gardening, but most of all, her passion was to be around her grandchildren, watching them play sports.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lance Crowston of Auburn, Wash., and Layne and Tammy Crowston of Maple Valley, Wash.; a daughter, Laurie Crowston of Ocean Park; a special daughter, Lori Crowston of Long Beach; a brother, Terry Brooks of Burley, Wash.; a sister, Deanna Brooks of Ocean Park; four grandchildren, Brandon, Vallori, Jessica and Lacey Crowston; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larron Crowston.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1 at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach.

Memorial contributions may be made to the state of Washington police, firefighters' and veterans' funds.
