Clinton Leonard Kemhus

Wheeler resident, 91

Clinton Leonard Kemhus, 91, of Seaside, died May 11, 2002, in Wheeler.

Mr. Kemhus was born March 25, 1911 in Cottonwood, Minn. to Henry C. and Mary Vien Kjemhus. Upon the death of his mother, he moved with his family to Seaside.

He married Clara Ostman on November 25, 1939. She died April 30, 2002.

He was the US Junior Billiard Champion at age nine and won third place in the 1939 Oregon State Weight Lifting Championships. He worked as a lifeguard, cab driver, logger and for the Ostman's Dairy before retiring from the Clatsop County Road Department, where he worked for 17 years.

He was a charter member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Family members remember him as an avid outdoorsman who liked to hunt, fish and dig clams, and say he enjoyed cooking, watching football. He ontinued lifting weights his whole life. He also built the last house he lived in and traveled extensively.

He is survived by two sons, Lynn Kemhus of Seaside and Jon Kemhus of Portland; two daughters, Kay Kjemhus of Redmond, Wash. and Mary Fryling of Cheney, Wash.; five grandchildren, Suzanne Frye of Monroe, Wash., Katherin Lynch of Redmond, Wash., Heather Fryling of Cheney, Wash., Timothy and Kristoffer Kemhus of Portland; and five great-granchildren, Allison, Jared and Cameron Frye, and Jakob and Dakota Lynch.

Memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, in care of Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, 220 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside.
