Evelyn Lazarus

Dress shop owner, 101Evelyn Lazarus, 101, formerly of Astoria, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Oakmont Manor Nursing Home in Flatwoods, Ky.

Mrs. Lazarus was born Nov. 29, 1902 in Alto, N.M., to George W. and Bertha Tolbert Hagee. She married Robert L. Stowe. After his death, she married Morton Lazarus. He also died earlier.

For many years, Mrs. Lazarus owned Morton's Dress Shop on Commercial Street in downtown Astoria. Friends say she was a good citizen, involved in the community and active in the Eastern Star. She often gave local high school students jobs in her dress shop and was very generous.

Mrs. Lazarus is survived by a son, Robert "Bob" Stowe Jr. of Ashland, Ky.; a daughter, Peggy Lantz of Riverside, Calif.; two brothers, Robert Hagee of Anderson, Mo., and Dale C. Hagee of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Lazear Funeral Home, 1632 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 411101 is in charge of arrangements.
