Marian Louise Humphreys Jones, 84, of Astoria, Oregon, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Services will be held Sunday, April 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria, Oregon. Disposition is private.

On February 27, 1929, Marian was born to Wayne and Altarena Humphreys in Eldora, Iowa. She was raised and educated in New Providence, Iowa. In 1946 Marian played on the New Providence High School’s girls basketball team, which finished second in the Iowa State Basketball Tournament that year. In 1960, she won the Women’s Golf Championship at Highland Golf and Country Club in Iowa Falls, Iowa. She was an avid reader and gardener.

Marian was first married to John B. Tjaden. On August 14, 1967, she married Donn M. Jones, and in 1971, they moved to Astoria, Oregon, after having lived in Iowa Falls, Iowa, and Spokane, Washington.

Marian is survived by five children; Jacqueline (Donald) Rieks of West Des Moines, Iowa, Patricia (Richard) Reece of Westerville, Ohio, Ronald (Stephanie) Tjaden, of Mason City, Iowa, Thomas (Kristi) Jones, and Christina Jones, all of Astoria, Oregon; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Burroway, Bradley Rieks, Tessie (Matt) Trump, John (Alyssa) Tjaden, Derek Jones, Amanda Jones, and Taylor Parker; great grandchildren, Jack, Cole, and Gray Trump, Lily Burroway, Ransom and Jarrett Tjaden, Jada and Hunter Hughes; and one brother, Robert Humphreys of Veyo, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant daughter, Sarah Beth Jones, two sisters, Doris Roberts and Marjorie Knavel, and a brother, Donald Humphreys.
