Mary Lou Bussone-Luethe, 57, of Long Beach, Wash., died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at home.
She was born Sept. 3, 1950, in Longview, Wash., to Albert and Eugenia Bussone. Her mother survives. Her father preceded her in death.
Raised in Cathlamet, Wash., she attended Julius Wendt Grade School through eighth grade. The family moved to the Long Beach Peninsula where she attended Ilwaco (Wash.) High School. She was active as a cheerleader during her sophomore, junior and senior years. In 1968, she was a Worthy Advisor for Rainbow Girls. In 1969, she attended Western Business University.
On Feb. 14, 1976, she married Gary Luethe. They divorced in 1984. On Feb. 14, 1998, the couple remarried. He survives, residing in Long Beach.
Following graduation from college, Mrs. Luethe returned to Long Beach and worked at Rainier Bank. Later, she was employed at two local attorneys' offices, sold real estate and ended her working career after 13 years at Fibre Federal Credit Union in Longview, Wash., where she was a supervisor.
She donated many hours to Ilwaco High School, worked to make the alumni donor campaign successful, helped with the annual alumni picnic and was an Ocean Beach (Wash.) Education Foundation board director. She supported many causes for the community's needy children and families. A keynote speaker for the 2007 Relay for Life, she encouraged the fight for early cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Family members said she loved hosting parties on the Fourth of July and during Christmas season. Razor clam digging, fishing in fair weather, reading with children in local schools and working on her computer were her favorite endeavors. Once retired, she enjoyed traveling. She also enjoyed spending time with her cats, Classy and Lucky LNG.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a stepson, Paul Luethe; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Luethe; two sisters, Sue Ann Bussone-Johnson and Sandra Rodal; a brother, Edward Bussone; four nieces, Michelle White, Kristen Page, Emilee Bussone-Williams and Karri Boyd; two nephews, Nathan Stewart and James Rodman; three great-nieces, Lindsey Hawkins, Ashley Wade and Madalyn Winingham; and two great-nephews, Mason Boyd and Kyler Hawkins-Phillips.
She was preceded in death by three aunts, Ione Orth, Margaret Holler and Lucille Antler; and four uncles, Walter and Melvin Irving and Louis and Frank Bussone.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Peninsula Church Center, 5550 N Place, in Seaview, Wash. A reception follows in the church hall.
