Anne H. McGowan

Warrenton resident, 81Anne H. McGowan, 81, of Warrenton, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Portland.

Mrs. McGowan was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Astoria, to Frank and Barbara Halderman.

In 1950, she married John S. McGowan. He survives, residing in Warrenton.

Mrs. McGowan graduated from Astoria High School and attended the University of Oregon, where she was affiliated with Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. In 1940, she was the Queen of the Astoria Regatta. She was a homemaker who enjoyed golf, bridge and travel, and was a past president of the Astoria Golf and Country Club Ladies' Group, and a member of the PEO Sisterhood.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Nancy Mabry of Hermiston and Barbara Courtney of Eugene; a son, John P. McGowan of Sammamish, Wash.; and six grandchildren, John and Mary Katherine Mabry, Christopher and Jennifer Courtney and Eryn and Kyle McGowan.

Memorial service is 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 Franklin Ave., Astoria., with a reception following at the Astoria Golf and Country Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, or the charity of one's choice, in care of Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, 576 12th St., Astoria, OR 97103.
