Nellie Henrietta Cole, 79, of Clatskanie, died Friday, May 4, 2007, in Brownsmead.

She was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Hammond, to John H. and Frances (Rineartsen) Yeager. She received her education in Warrenton.

She married Don Cole Oct. 13, 1944, in Astoria. He preceded her in death March 17, 1998.

Mrs. Cole worked for many local canneries, and drove the senior and the special needs busses. She was the organist for the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clatskanie and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Rainier.

She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Church and the Pacific Grange. She was a Cub Scout den mother, and visited the home-bound.

She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, home canning, clam digging, crocheting, square dancing and wild blackberry picking. Family members said she was always up for a adventure.

Mrs. Cole is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Bill Russelman of Clatskanie and Jane and Lee Burnard of Brownsmead; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kathy Cole of Grants Pass; 11 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Eliason; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass was held today.

Private inurnment will be at Murray Hill Cemetery in Clatskanie.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
